Navid Nakai is an experienced search and strategy consultant with extensive experience serving clients in the nonprofit sector and higher education. He has led all aspects of the search process, including strategy and research development, sourcing, recruitment, assessment, client and board management, referencing, and negotiations. He has worked with a wide range of clients, including major research universities such as UC Berkeley, UC Davis, Kansas State University, Oregon State University, University of Arizona, Pennsylvania State University, and Florida State University on positions ranging from President and Vice Presidential searches to Executive Directors and Associate Deans.
Additional areas of Navid’s expertise include public comprehensive universities, Hispanic Serving Institutions (HSI), academic medicine, private liberal arts colleges, large nonprofit consortia, foundations, and philanthropic organizations. Representative clients in this space include the Giant Magellan Telescope, the Department of Energy (DOE)-funded Energy Efficient Buildings Hub (EEB Hub), the University of North Texas Health Science Center, the Claremont Colleges, and campuses in the California State University System.
Before beginning his consulting career, Navid worked in the San Francisco Bay Area for Apple and taught English language and literature in several cities in Europe and in Aleppo, Syria–leading to a working literacy in several languages. Navid also remains active in the international arts community in Los Angeles and serves on the board of Reach LA, a community organization whose mission is to motivate young LGBT people of color, ages 16 to 29, to increase self-care by providing social and sexual health services through an empowering community engagement process, employing the visual and performing arts.
Navid received his BA in History from the University of California, Berkeley.
