The mission of Ada S. McKinley Community Services, Inc. is to empower, educate, and employ people to change lives and strengthen communities.

The agency was founded as a settlement house in 1919 by Ada Sophia McKinley, a schoolteacher and social reformer, who saw the need to assist veterans returning from World War I and African Americans migrating from the South.  Currently celebrating its 100th year anniversary, Ada S. McKinley is one of the largest human services organizations in the country with an annual operating budget of $40 million, nearly 600 employees, serving more than 7,000 people annually at over 70 locations.  Services are provided 24-hours a day, 365 days a year, primarily in Illinois/Chicago with additional sites in Indiana and Wisconsin.

Ada S. McKinley has three primary areas of service:  Child Development & Youth Services, Employment & Community Support, and Behavioral Health & Clinical Services. Services rendered daily include:

  • Tutoring, mentoring and college placement;
  • Family support and stabilization programming
  • Foster care;
  • Housing opportunities;
  • Youth and family counseling;
  • Employment training and placement; and
  • Head Start and Early Head Start programing.  ​

Ada currently serves approximately 6,000 individuals and families through its Child Development & Youth Services (CDYS) set of programs. This includes Behavioral Health & Clinical  Services, Head Start & Early Head Start programming, Foster Care and Family Support programming and College Readiness and Placement services

In addition to its CDYS programming, Ada S. McKinley also services over 1,000 adults through its Employment & Community Support Services set of programs.

The Opportunity

The Vice President provides strong leadership across all Child Development and Youth Services (“CDYS”) programs in areas including, but not limited to, clinical supports, performance and quality improvement (PQI), and staff training and professional development. This also includes the development of operational standards, budgetary and financial management, as well as some human resource responsibilities.

Reporting to the Senior Vice President of CDYS, this position has overall responsibility for all activities related to the effective and efficient functioning of CDYS programming. This leader will accomplish these responsibilities in partnership with the staff they across CDYS: the Child Welfare Clinical Team, Child Development Clinical Team, Educational Services Clinical Team, CDYS PQI staff, BHCS billing staff and CDYS Training Coordinator.

The Vice President is responsible for the creation and implementation of annual CDYS PQI and staff development/training plans. In addition, the position provides direction and guidance to behavioral health and clinical service teams across all CDYS programs as well as establishes strategies and oversees the billing process of all Medicaid services to ensure maximum revenue opportunities. The Vice President remains current on best practices in the areas of mental health and trauma-informed services, PQI measures and staff training/professional development programs.

This Vice President serves on the Ada S. McKinley Leadership Team and participates in all functions included in being a member of this team. The position ensures all program elements align with the organization’s mission and strategic plan strategies.

It is required the person in this position maintain strong interpersonal and communication skills, develops a strong team approach, and lead from both a position of accountability and compassion.

The Vice President is a tactical and results-oriented leader with the ability to set priorities decisively, delegate responsibilities, assure accountability and allocate resources to ensure results. The Vice President will listen to and strengthen a set of empowered teams. The Vice President brings experience-enhancing programs and culture in a complex organization and a proven record of converting strategy into effective execution, offering creative, practical ideas to achieve Ada’s mission. The Vice President possesses a strong orientation towards collaboration and a proven ability to use metrics to drive cohesive operational and quality decisions. An ability to leverage the expertise of the staff and hone the programmatic systems and processes will be key for success.

Operation Acumen and Program Evaluation

A proven leader, the Vice President will make a significant contribution to ensuring that Ada’s CDYS programs operate efficiently and effectively. The Vice President will cultivate a learning culture through program evaluation and the professional growth of staff. In addition, this leader will have the ability to conceptualize and analyze problems and solutions in a proactive, constructive and collaborative manner in order to improve performance across CDYS programming to maximize the impact on individuals, families and communities served. This will include the implementation of critical supportive and clinical services throughout programs and ensure staff access to resources and skill-building.

Relationship Building and Organizational Management

The Vice President will have the ability to establish rapport and cultivate cooperative relationships across all levels of CDYS and empower a diverse staff and external constituents to deliver results. The Vice President will be inclusive, allowing for the building of consensus and recognition of teamwork with staff from a mixture of program areas. It is imperative the Vice President foster an atmosphere of collaboration and partnership throughout CDYS and the organization. The Vice President will have an exceptional capacity for motivating and leading people, including building the capabilities of a driven, and diverse group of teams and individuals. The Vice President will develop and empower staff at a variety of levels so that all programs are in the best position to succeed.
