About The Partnership Project
Founded in 1999, The Partnership Project has operated as a hub for community innovation and collaboration, hosting a variety of coalition campaigns to enhance the protection of the natural environment. Currently, the Partnership Project has 20 groups participating, including the largest environmental advocacy groups in the country, and is governed by a 20-member board of directors and a 4-member executive committee. The Partnership Project believes that by uniting their members and contributors on coordinated actions, the participating groups are creating a sum of citizen participation and advocacy greater than they could generate acting apart.
Attracting a diverse set of hosted programs that cover a broad spectrum – from a narrowly focused policy campaign to those that seek transformational change with regards to environmental justice – the Partnership Project strategy empowers each coalition program and their steering committees to set and execute on their own goals and outcomes. Utilizing a fiscal sponsorship services model, the Partnership Project provides an environment in which collaborative efforts can be stood up with high standards across finance, human resources, legal, and risk management.
Currently, The Partnership Projects hosts the Climate Action Campaign, Digital Climate Coalition, Equitable & Just National Climate Platform, American Public Lands, Clean Vehicles Campaign, and Methane Partners Campaign, among others.
The Partnership Project is looking for an exceptional Executive Director (ED) to lead the organization to achieve even greater levels of support and service to the environmental and climate space to build its advocacy strength, innovation, creativity, and effectiveness. This is an opportunity for a strategic leader to build upon the founding values and long-standing track record of excellence and lead the organization into the future. Reporting into the Board of Directors, the next ED will work closely with the program leaders of the campaigns and lead a small but mighty team who manage the day-to-day operations and administration of the organization.
In addition, the ED must demonstrate a commitment to engaging with voices that represent communities outside of the national green groups to better reflect the full spectrum of communities The Partnership Project seeks to serve. With a highly focused racial and social justice lens, the ED will be a champion of and exhibit an abiding passion and commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion values.
The ideal candidate for this role will be a collaborative and communicative leader who understands the value of leading from behind to allow the programs and campaigns to lead and be front and center. They will have familiarity with modern organizing and advocacy techniques with a vision for building innovative tools for programs and campaigns to be efficient and effective. They will be a strong leader with exceptional coalition and relationship management skills, execution skills, and operational sensibilities who can ensure the continued success of the organization while seeking additional opportunities for impact in the future.

As a seasoned leader, the ED will bring a balanced hand in cultivating organizational culture and crafting strong administrative systems in support of the mission of The Partnership Project. They will have a deep respect for the history of The Partnership Project while staying focused on the opportunities that present for the organization to facilitate multiple constituents toward systemic and sustained impact. They will represent the values of diversity, equity, and inclusion both internally and externally.
Business and Financial Acumen
The ED will be an executive with strong staff, operational, and financial management experience. They will have a proven track record in strategic financial oversight and a comprehensive record of overseeing various functions of an organization. They will have proven experience in budgeting, strategic forecasting, and planning, and in managing financial, accounting, compliance, and risk management of a complex organization.
Strategic Leadership and Management
The ED will be a strategic, tactical, and entrepreneurial leader able to develop, articulate, and implement an innovative vision for The Partnership Project’s next chapter. Working with the program leaders, Board, and other key stakeholders, the ED will help to translate the organizational vision into a strong business model as The Partnership Project thinks about the next several years of the organization’s evolution.
They will be an experienced manager who engenders trust in the staff through a collaborative management style, helps them achieve their potential, and holds them accountable to clearly defined expectations and goals.
Building Relationships and Using Influence
As the leader of a complex organization that hosts a variety of coalition campaigns and programs, the ED will be an excellent and persuasive communicator with exceptional interpersonal skills and the ability to foster an atmosphere of collaboration and partnership across the organization. They will understand how to nurture and leverage relationships in support of the organization’s mission. The ED will possess an authentic and genuine ability to convene and inspire individuals, communities, and partner organizations around The Partnership Project’s vision. The ED will be a strong advocate for constituents, the Board, and the staff.

Compensation & Benefits
Compensation for this position will start at an annual base salary of $160,000 and has an attractive benefits package.
