Women are on the cusp of becoming the most powerful force in America. But to fundamentally transform this country, we need to pull together the millions of women who are already engaged and amplify and expand their civic participation. Supermajority Education Fund is a new effort to build women’s power across the country by training and mobilizing a community of women and allies across race, age, background, and geography to lead the fight for gender equity. We will provide the tools, resources, and knowledge women need to channel the energy and activism of this moment and build it into a long-term movement for change.
Since our founding in April 2019, Supermajority Education Fund and our related 501(c)(4) organization, Supermajority, have reached more than a million women through in-person conversations and online outreach. In August 2019, over 75,000 people from all 50 states completed our Women’s* Poll, which led to the creation of the Majority Rules, a set of values to help us build the country we deserve. In September and October 2019, the Supermajority Education Fund Bus Tour met up with thousands of women across fourteen states, and included conversations between our members and five presidential candidates. In December 2019 we launched Supermajority News, a new editorial platform reporting on the intersection of gender, politics, and activism, and welcomed Pantsuit Nation, an online community of more than 3 million women and allies, into our organization. In 2020, we are poised to run the country’s largest woman-to-woman voter engagement program by offering strategic digital tools, training, and information to women and allies around the country.
Supermajority Education Fund is seeking a Deputy Director of Grants and Philanthropic Communications to join the team. Reporting to the Director of Development, the Deputy Director of Grants and Philanthropic Communications is a key member of the development team and is responsible for helping designing and execute a grant management strategy, taking the lead on grant writing, reporting and project management of a grant during its lifecycle, and crafting key communications for our donors.
Working closely with the Development Director and the departmental leads, the Deputy Director of Grants and Philanthropic Communications will lead proposal writing associated with restricted and unrestricted grants from foundations and individuals and oversee the grant application schedule, lead the tracking process, and draft various grant reports. In addition, the Deputy will be the lead on drafting key donor communications, such as major donor emails, talking points, and written appeals. The ideal candidate has the ability to manage projects independently, takes initiative, has extremely strong writing skills, detail-oriented, communicative, creative and organized.
All duties can be conducted virtually during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Essential Responsibilities and Activities:
- Serve as the lead writer for grant submissions, proposals and applications.
- Ensure these submissions are packaged according to the requirements of the donor or grant-giving organization.
- Ensure grant reporting is conducted effectively, packaging data from multiple sources and to the requirements of the grant-issuing organization.
- Monitor all proposal deadlines and requirements.
- Initiate inter-departmental communications to steward a grant from initial outreach, concept letter, proposal writing to final reporting.
- Assist with research about new funding opportunities for both short- and long-term institutional goals.
- Oversee the institutional fundraising calendar, ensuring proposals and reports are submitted in a timely manner and prospective and active funders receive ongoing cultivation and stewardship touchpoints by development staff and senior leadership.
- Track institutional prospects, submitted grants, gifts, reporting and other foundation related information in the development database.
- Lead on development content and copy for major donor communications, appeals and campaigns.
- Create a strategic calendar for communications to individual donors and foundations.
- Key liaison with the communications team on ensuring donor talking points are accurate and timely.
The successful candidate must have the following skills and qualities:
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills: Grant writing experience with ability to communicate concepts and accomplishments in writing or through presentations.
- Ability to communicate effectively with donors: Experience crafting donor communications often in response to time-sensitive external breaking news.
- Strong Interpersonal Skills: Comfortable working with principals and senior staff to gather needed information for grants and holding individuals accountable for deadlines.
- Must be detail oriented: You are self-directed, organized and able to multi-task in order to meet multiple deadline demands.
- Strong virtual communication and collaboration: Efficiency and comfort with Slack and Google Suite, responsiveness via email, and willingness to participate in weekly group calls or as needed
- Working for racial equity: Willingness to integrate an understanding of key racial equity concepts into work projects and interactions by addressing structural implications and disproportionate impacts of policies, activities, and decisions on race, class and other group identities within the context of job responsibilities and projects
The strongest candidates will also have some of the following skills and experience:
- Ability to weave together multiple concepts into a narrative that is compelling for a targeted audience;
- Experience in progressive organization or electoral spaces;
- Interest and experience within social, gender or economic justice organizations.
- The annual salary starts at $90,00 and is commensurate with experience.
