Founded in 2003, Redstone Strategy Group (Redstone) is a social sector consulting firm and advisor to philanthropies, nonprofit organizations, family offices, companies, and governments worldwide.  Redstone works with clients, communities, experts, and stakeholders to solve complex social problems and answer tough questions on poverty reduction, food security, education, health, climate, and the environment.

Redstone is guided by three core values:

  • To help leading organizations solve the world’s most urgent social problems.

Redstone is deeply committed to advancing the field of philanthropy and the social sector through partnerships, policy and politics, service delivery, impact investing and venture building, grantmaking, and research.

Redstone’s work is far-reaching and impactful.  For example, in New York City, Redstone facilitated a collaboration of the city’s top food assistance providers to help bring 10 million pounds of new food to neighborhoods where it’s needed most. Redstone launched an initiative to support full degree programs that eliminate textbook costs to students at 38 community colleges across the US. In Brazil, the firm assisted the Linden Trust for Conservation and the Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation to permanently preserve over 60 million hectares of critical Amazon habitat. Redstone also helped the International Planned Parenthood Federation double the number of annual services provided, reaching 137 million people, including some of the planet’s most disadvantaged and marginalized citizens.

The Opportunity

Redstone is seeking an Associate Principal or Principal to join its dynamic and mission-driven team.

Partnering closely with clients, an Associate Principal (AP) will develop innovative, high-impact solutions to social issues, developing into a Principal longer-term. An AP is responsible for managing 2-3 projects at a time, leading relationships with current clients, and originating 1-2 new client relationships per year as they become more senior.  APs are on the firm’s Leadership Team, take on responsibility for key internal priorities (e.g., people and culture topics, communications, strategy, etc.)  and provide coaching for other team members (Associates, Project Managers, etc.) to play productive roles on client teams and develop in their careers.

A Principal will be responsible for originating and leading a client portfolio of high-impact projects. The Principal will exemplify leadership and will inspire trust and confidence across a diverse range of constituents. The Principal will be a member of the Firm’s Leadership Team and Management Committee and contribute to the strategic direction of the firm with other senior leaders, as well as growing and nurturing the talent and capacity of staff.

Both roles will be key contributors to advancing Redstone’s capacity and high-impact consulting practice. As an external leader, they will be responsible for cultivating and stewarding relationships, clientele development, knowledge leadership, and project management.  In addition, they will be committed to enhancing the professional development of staff and act as a mentor and coach to a team of skilled and high-performing individuals.

They will bring deep experience at the nexus of philanthropy, the social sector, professional services, and impact venture development, or a willingness to dive into these areas. Ideally, the candidate will add to the firm’s existing topical and functional capabilities (public health, conservation, climate, global development, economic mobility, or education). In addition, Redstone is looking to grow their practice in the areas of social justice, economic opportunity, and strengthening democracy.

Diversity, equity, and inclusion strengthen Redstone’s work and team by encouraging creativity, collaboration, and openness. Redstone seeks to build a firm that realizes their ideals and fulfills their ambitions for change. The AP or Principal must demonstrate a commitment to engaging with voices that reflect the full spectrum of the communities that Redstone supports and serves. With a highly focused equity lens, they will be a champion of and exhibit an abiding passion and commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion values in both client and internal work.

Redstone has offices in Boulder, Colorado; the San Francisco Bay Area, California; and New York, New York. The location for this position is flexible with some travel required. Travel will depend on client needs with the ability to be planned in advance. We estimate travel to be around 2-8 days a month depending upon where the candidate and their clients are located.

The ideal candidate for this role will be an entrepreneurial and thoughtful problem-solver who is dedicated to tackling some of the more pressing challenges of the social sector. They will be a thought leader for teams, a trusted advisor to clients, and see the potential for impact through helping clients achieve their visions. They will not shy away from challenging conversations, both within the firm and with clients, and have a desire to build a portfolio of high-impact work and a distinctive and leverageable area of knowledge.

While no one candidate will possess every quality outlined for this position, a successful candidate will bring many of the following professional qualifications and personal attributes:

They will contribute to an environment where racial and ethnic diversity, cultural heritage, and lived experience is centered and woven throughout the work. They will be a leader and thought partner with a strong belief that Redstone’s values make the firm more effective and allow the firm to provide more informed and diverse solutions to clients.

Collaborator and Key Partner
