The mission of the National Book Foundation is to celebrate the best literature in America, expand its audience, and ensure that books have a prominent place in American culture. The Foundation was founded to administer the National Book Awards, which has been one of the most prestigious literary prizes in the country since 1950. The organization also produces numerous educational and public programs that help connect readers to books in new and meaningful ways.
The National Book Foundation is currently seeking its fourth Executive Director since its founding in 1989. This is a unique opportunity to build on the organization’s history and prestige to increase impact, expand and strengthen programming, and ensure that great American literature is accessible to a diverse and rich community of readers and writers. The Executive Director will be responsible for promoting the mission and vision of the organization, including oversight of all aspects of the National Book Awards process as well as its programming.
