Job Summary

The Executive Director is the face and voice of  Newburyport Art Association (NAA). The Executive Director leads the organization through cultivation, solicitation and stewardship meetings with donors, non-donors and others in the arts community to build strategic philanthropic partnerships to further NAA’s creative vision. The Executive Director, along with the Operations Manager, implement the creation of and marketing strategies for exhibitions, programming, and events to promote and communicate NAA’s mission.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop a cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship donor strategy, meeting regularly with current and prospective donors
  • Manage the gift ask and acknowledgment processes
  • Create and produce an Annual Donor Report each fiscal year
  • Work collaboratively with the Board and appropriate committees to build philanthropic partnerships to support fundraising campaigns
  • Create a monthly ED report as well as attend and facilitate monthly Board meetings
  • Create and implement, along with the Operations Manager, all gallery programming including but not limited to exhibitions, opening receptions, educational programming and fundraising events
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date development files, records and systems
  • Manage website updates and social media activity
  • Write and post press releases for exhibitions
  • Manage marketing for exhibitions, programming and events
  • Source, train and manage volunteers with Operations Manager
  • Other executive management and oversight duties as needed
Key Accountabilities

The Executive Director must be innovative and have strong communication and leadership skills while also being able to work collaboratively with, and take direction from, the Board of Directors.

The Executive Director must comply with established policies and practices

Key Selection Criteria
  • Minimum of 5 years development experience with annual giving, front line fundraising, capital campaigns preferred
  • Minimum of 5 years marketing experience both digital and print preferred.  Experience with a visual arts organization a plus
  • Minimum of 5 years non-profit management experience
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Proven ability to manage time and prioritize tasks
  • Highly effective interpersonal skills
  • Computer skills to include proficiency with Word, Excel and email programs
  • Strong work ethic and comfort in a small, team-oriented work environment.
Additional Physical Requirements
  • Ability to occasionally lift up to 50 pounds
  • Ability to routinely climb stairs (approximately 13)
  • Ability to sit for extended periods
  • Ability to move around the gallery
