About ACCP:

Founded in 2005, the Association of Corporate Citizenship Professionals (ACCP) is a membership organization chartered to champion the Corporate Citizenship profession. ACCP is open to businesses and their professionals in for-profit companies or corporate-funded foundations responsible for leading innovative corporate responsibility and corporate citizenship programs.

With the vision of a world where corporations leverage their resources to improve society, ACCP seeks to empower corporate citizenship professionals to promote better stewardship of corporate resources to magnify social and business impacts. ACCP represents a thriving and growing industry of professionals who consider ACCP an important resource to expand networks, create business value, engage priority stakeholders and transform global societies.

ACCP’s current membership consists of more than 180 global companies, ranging from medium-sized businesses to publicly held Fortune 500 companies, across a wide spectrum of industries, representing over 1,300 corporate responsibility leaders. ACCP serves its members through industry-leading educational and professional development programs including its annual Conference and the Contributions Academy Forum.  ACCP also provides industry thought leadership, peer networks, custom programs and a wealth of online resources for professionals at different stages of their careers. ACCP has become the preeminent resource for CR professionals optimizing the social and business value of their work through its Corporate Responsibility Executive Institute and Project ROI.

ACCP is governed by an active and passionate Board of Directors, representative of corporate responsibility leaders from diverse backgrounds, industry sectors and geographies. ACCP also relies on its member-led Delegate Assembly to provide input on policies and strategy to the Board.

Leading ACCP into the Future

The field of corporate responsibility is evolving and becoming more integral to businesses, global in scale, and vital to solving society’s most urgent problems. After thirteen years of growth, in 2016 ACCP undertook a new strategic plan. The purpose of this plan is to catalyze the next phase of learning, thought leadership and professional development for corporate responsibility leaders and ACCP members. The strategic plan was adopted by the ACCP Board unanimously in December of 2016 and is the roadmap for the next generation of ACCP.

After successfully leading ACCP for more than a decade, Mark Shamley has decided to step down as CEO and pursue new opportunities. The ACCP Succession Planning Committee has created a thorough, thoughtful and transparent process to retain our next leader.

We are seeking a leader who emulates the innovation and transformation of our profession with passion and expertise to lead ACCP and the profession itself into the next decade of growth. The next CEO will create a vision and direction for ACCP and inspire the Board, Staff, members and other stakeholders to achieve that aspiration.

The Opportunity:

At this exciting moment in ACCP’s history, and during an important evolution of the corporate responsibility profession, the next CEO will provide thought leadership and executive direction to ACCP as it enters its next chapter of growth. Setting the vision and the identity of ACCP as the premier trusted voice at the forefront of the CR discipline will be one of the most important priorities for this CEO. As a respected business and operational leader, the CEO will also focus on membership, fiscal effectiveness and core mission delivery in a fast-paced field that is experiencing rapid change and growth.

Reporting to the Board of Directors, the CEO will lead a team of 7 highly skilled professionals and manage a budget of approximately $2.2 Million. The CEO will be an entrepreneurial and business-savvy leader who will lead the Board and Staff to push the boundaries of the field, build thought leadership platforms, and foster industry partnerships and collaborations to elevate the work of the CR profession and ACCP.

The CEO will be instrumental in helping to achieve ACCP’s objectives. S/he will have the following responsibilities:

Thought Leadership

  • Elevate ACCP and its members as respected thought leaders in this discipline;
  • Represent the field as a thought leader and serve as a spokesperson and expert in the practice of CR and corporate citizenship on behalf of ACCP;
  • Lead the profession and ensure that ACCP offers the most cutting-edge programs and conferences for current and prospective members;
  • Lead industry collaborations and joint ventures, identify trends to help members excel in their profession;
  • Innovate and set the example for the future growth of CR, corporate citizenship professionals and the discipline overall;
  • Provide timely and innovative communications, provide up-to-date and provoking thought leadership to the field through blogging, use of social media, news media and more;
  • Serve as an advocate for the field and for issues that impact the industry whenever needed, including but not limited to legislative issues; and
  • Continue to grow the scale of ACCP and its members.

Organizational Leadership

  • Lead the implementation of the existing ACCP Strategic Plan and help develop/evolve future Strategic Planning that will ready the organization and its members for the future;
  • Meet and exceed all association sponsorship goals, including events, conferences and the acquisition and retention of membership;
  • Leverage, develop and heighten the expertise and experience of a motivated, qualified and innovative team to effectively carry out the mission of ACCP;
  • Review and evaluate staff performance as it relates to stated goals and objectives;
  • Oversee the day-to-day operations of the association including all budget and financials;
  • Implement strategies as approved by the Board of Directors. Serve as the chair and an ex officio member on committees. Work with committee members on carrying out goals; and
  • Advise the Board on policies, objectives and programs deemed to meet the needs of total members.

An ‘Ambassador’ for ACCP

The CEO will be a charismatic, high-energy and well-known business executive and/or respected thought leader in the field of CR and corporate citizenship. S/he will have an executive and genuine presence and will be able to eloquently promote and convey ACCP’s mission to a diverse range of constituents to generate support and inspire action. As the lead spokesperson and chief fundraiser for ACCP, s/he will bring a strong network of contacts in the field and inspire trust and confidence from industry leaders. S/he will also excel at working in partnership with the Board and senior management teams at member companies to develop strategies and build ACCP’s brand equity and reputation in the field.

A Strategic Visionary

The CEO will be a strategic leader who, with the Board and Staff, will define ACCP’s identity in the next chapter in a fast-paced field that is experiencing rapid change and growth. An effective “big picture” strategist and marketer, s/he will take a consultative approach to evolve the vision of the organization for the future while celebrating the last decade of positive impact. The ability to think entrepreneurially and inject new ideas and industry partnerships and collaborations into the strategy will be critical for the organization to reach its full potential. The CEO will have demonstrated the ability to respectfully push the boundaries of ACCP’s work and influence and challenge the perspective of others to encourage mindful risk taking, innovation and proactivity, while being fiscally responsible. This leader will instinctively ‘get ahead of the curve’ in terms of anticipating needs and threats, and craft a strategy to address those while achieving ACCP’s mission.

An Action-Oriented Leader with Strong Execution Skills

The CEO will be skilled at upholding ACCP’s reputation for high performance and accountability for results, while maintaining a collegial culture. S/he will be responsible for meeting and exceeding all sponsorship and membership acquisition goals and will be skilled at guiding the Board and Staff to achieve their goals and focus on the strategic levers to drive the organization in the right areas. S/he will have the ability to make decisions swiftly and set priorities, delegate responsibilities, assure accountability and allocate resources to ensure results.  S/he will strengthen and retain an empowered team that will work with him/her to implement the course of action for achieving the vision. An engaging and supportive leader, s/he will have a track record of motivating and inspiring others to achieve impact through creativity and teamwork and of leveraging individual strengths to meet organizational goals. A tactical leader, s/he will have a strong business orientation and an ability to use metrics to drive business decisions and achieve strategic objectives.

Candidates can come from a variety of backgrounds. Evidence of thought leadership in the field is highly desirable.  Leading a Corporate Citizenship/CR/Corporate Philanthropy/Global Citizenship function at a Fortune 500 company would be appealing but not required.
