Koya’s partnership with The Comer Education Campus resulted in the placement of Rhonda Hopps as Executive Director. The Comer Campus is comprised of the 80,000 square feet state of the art Gary Comer Youth Center, Gary Comer College Prep High School, Gary Comer Middle School, and the two-acre Youth Education Garden. Located in the Greater Grand Crossing neighborhood on the south side of Chicago, the Campus provides extensive programs, experiences, and wrap-around services to over 2,000 youth annually to empower them with the tools they need to succeed in life and reach their full potential.
Hopps brings over 30 years of leadership in the education, strategic growth, and finance sectors to this role. As Executive Director, Hopps will provide day to day leadership as well as strategic direction for one of the most unique youth-serving organizations in the country.
Prior to Joining the Comer Campus in August 2019, Hopps served most recently as the Chief Growth Officer and previously as Chief Executive Officer of Perspectives Charter Schools where she led the planning, financing, and on-time/on-budget construction of a $25mm campus for three of Perspectives’ schools. Hopps successfully attained two charter renewals, navigated through four different years of budget cuts and operating uncertainty while quadrupling the net assets of the organization.
Hopps is a 1998 Leadership Greater Chicago Fellow and has earned the Chartered Financial Analyst designation. Hopps has also had extensive for-profit and not-for-profit board experience.
Hopps received her MBA from the Stanford University Graduate School of Business and her BA from Northwestern University with dual majors in Math and Economics.
