November 19, 2020

Koya partnered with the National Outdoor Leadership School (NOLS) on its Human Resources Director search. Our work resulted in the placement of Missy Durant.

NOLS is a nonprofit global wilderness school that seeks to help people step forward boldly as a leader. NOLS’ mission is to be the leading source and teacher of wilderness skills and leadership that serve people and the environment.

For more than 25 years, Durant has worked as a leader for a large variety of U.S. businesses, including major retailers and healthcare providers. Durant is known for her ability to help organizations and teams create strategies to meet the needs of their customers and employees and execute a plan to get results. Her success is grounded in her depth of HR and operational experience spanning organizations of varying sizes and expertise in helping organizations grow.

Active in the community, Missy has served several non-profit organizations, including Project Success (a non-profit serving Minneapolis and St. Paul youth) and the Human Rights Campaign (America’s largest civil rights organization working to achieve gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender equality).  While living in Florida, she was President of the Board for The Wellness Council of Jacksonville, where she led the city to its designation as the first “WellCity USA” (with 20% of the population working for businesses with wellness programs) and served on the Board of Directors for People with AIDS Coalition Jacksonville (PWACJ).  Now she is an active member of Judson Memorial Baptist Church in Minneapolis and volunteers at Camp Erin, a grief camp for kids.  Wearing her mom hat, Missy helps lead her daughter’s Girl Scout troop, served on as a Site Council representative for Minneapolis Kids (a before/after school program for school-age kids), volunteered as a rigger for Circus Juventas Spring show, and was the first female head coach for the Minneapolis Millers traveling baseball team, which finished 2nd in the region.

Missy earned her master’s degree in Organizational Management from the University of Phoenix and a Bachelor’s of Science from the University of Northern Florida.
