Koya Principal, Mo Lashendock and her Executive Search team partnered with Susquehanna University on the recruitment of Justin Rummel as its new Assistant Vice President for Student Financial Services.
Leading a team responsible for the administration of federal, state and institutional student financial aid as well as student accounts receivable, he’ll partner with enrollment management and university leadership to provide all current and prospective students with a “one-stop shop” of financial aid counseling, awarding, and higher education financing options.
An operationally-focused finance leader, Mr. Rummel has a broad range of experiences in higher education over his 18-year career.  His career began in the public sector with stints as a research analyst for the Republican Caucus in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives and as a federal policy analyst for the Pennsylvania Higher Education Assistance Agency (PHEAA).
In 2009 Mr. Rummel was hired as Strayer University’s first financial aid auditor and gained valuable experiences leading compliance and finance initiatives across every function of the university.  In 2014 he was appointed University Bursar and Director of Fiscal Operations expanding the role of the department from federal and state aid processing to also include third-party billing and collections as well as administering all student aid communications.
Most recently, Mr. Rummel was the Director of Financial Aid at Salisbury University in the University System of Maryland overseeing federal, state and institutional aid administration.  During his tenure, he led the university’s recertification efforts with the U.S. Department of Education, implemented the University’s first financial aid quality assurance program and was instrumental in expanding the university’s institutional aid program.  He was also active with shared governance groups as he was appointed to the Maryland Higher Education Commission’s Financial Aid Advisory Council, USM’s Strategic Use of Institutional Aid Workgroup and was elected to Salisbury University’s Staff Senate.
