Joseph “JT” Duck
February 12, 2020
Koya is pleased to announce the placement of Joseph “JT” Duck as the next Dean of Admissions and Enrollment Management of Tufts University.
Prior to joining Tufts University, Duck served as Director of Admissions at Swarthmore College. In that role, he led the implementation of Committee-Based Evaluation, an innovative approach to holistic application review, and trained dozens of institutions on the practice. He led a diverse staff through the implementation of new technology platforms and played a pivotal role in the development of new print and digital communications. During his five years at Swarthmore, first-year applications doubled, and the enrollment of first-generation and low-income students soared to their highest levels.
Duck’s career has included senior admissions positions at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Brandeis University, and Haverford College. In addition, he spent five years as the Director of College Counseling at Boston University Academy, an independent high school on the BU campus. His time there allowed him to experience the complexities of the college admissions process from the perspective of young people and their families. That experience informs his approach to his work at Tufts.
Duck is among the first generation in his family to earn a college degree. He graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Comparative Literature from Haverford College, and a Master’s degree in Higher Education Administration from the Harvard Graduate School of Education.
