Koya partnered with the Sierra Club on the search for a Director of Digital Strategies. The Sierra Club focuses on the practice and promotion of responsible use of the earth’s ecosystems and resources.
The search resulted in the recruitment of Deepa Kunapuli to the role. Kunapuli serves as a member of the Executive Team, overseeing digital engagement, digital organizing, and digital infrastructure.
Kunapuli has a diverse background in public interest technology, movement building, organizing and campaigning, change management, organizational communications, and equity and inclusion.
Kunapuli joined the Sierra Club from re:power where she served as Vice President, Communications and Marketing. There, she managed a team of digital-first, data-driven strategists, and creatives to tell the story of what it means to build transformative political power through inclusive politics.
Previously, Kunapuli served as the first Communications Director of the U.S. Digital Service in The White House. There, she built infrastructure and capacity with a cross-functional working group in multiple White House offices, policy areas, and agencies to focus on telling stories about the impact of digital services on 300 million Americans –including access to healthcare, veteran’s benefits, student loans, and immigration policy.
Civically active, Kunapuli is a Board member at Chicago Votes and a weekly tutor with Tutoring Chicago. She is a Board member, Alumni Relations, and 2019 Fellow at New Leaders Council Chicago.
Kunapuli received her B.A. in International Studies and Political Science from the University of Iowa.
