Center for Policing Equity

July 30, 2021

Koya partnered with the Center for Policing Equity (CPE) on the search for a Senior Vice President of Finance and Operations. CPE collects data and helps law enforcement agencies identify ways to improve their relationship with the communities they serve. The search resulted in the recruitment of Betsy Castro to the role.

Castro has over 12 years of experience and possesses a broad set of skills in finance, operations, and organizational culture.

Before developing a passion for policing equity, Castro began her career in public accounting and continued her path in various corporate finance roles with large companies, such as Villeroy & Boch and McGraw Hill.  Being a first-generation, immigrant Latina, Castro became the founding finance and operations lead for New World Preparatory Charter School – a charter school located in the Port Richmond area of Staten Island, NY which provides high-quality education to English Language Learners. That experience paved the way for a future career in progressive, non-profit leadership roles for organizations such as Princeton University, Innovate Public Schools, and Princeton-Blairstown Center – roles where she managed operating and capital budgets ranging from $1.1M to $3.2B.

After spending over twelve years in nonprofit finance, specifically in startup, growing, and transitioning organizations, Castro understands what truly drives and motivates people.  She is a people strategist who partners with key stakeholders to ensure financial sustainability, operational excellence, a healthy and inclusive work environment, and agile organizational growth.

Her work in nonprofit leadership earned her the 2020 Harold L. Conover Leadership Award from her alma mater, Rider University, for exhibiting exemplary leadership qualities in a non-profit organization. In her free time, she enjoys cooking, traveling, reading, relaxing with her lazy dog, and taming her unruly garden.

Castro holds a Bachelor of Science in Accounting and an MBA in Finance from Rider University.
