Kennedy Hilario became the Executive Director of City on a Hill Charter Public Schools in September 2015. Kennedy Hilario is responsible for managing City on a Hill’s existing schools in Boston and New Bedford as well as overseeing organizational growth, ensuring that more students in Massachusetts’ gateway cities have access to a high-quality, college-preparatory education. Kennedy comes to City on a Hill with significant experience leading charter schools. He most recently served as Associate Executive Director of Community Day Charter Public School in Lawrence, Massachusetts, where he helped grow a charter network from one to three schools and assisted in the management of the turnaround of a district school.
Prior to CDCPS, Kennedy led Environmental Charter High School in California, and later managed business operations as Managing Director of PUC Schools in California. Kennedy has also taught 3rd through 6th grade at the private school that he and his wife managed prior to joining the charter movement. Kennedy serves on the board of Massachusetts Charter Public School Association and of Children of Promise Preparatory Academy located in Inglewood, California.
Prior to working in education, Kennedy worked for 12 years in the private sector with Exxon/Mobil, Booz Allen Hamilton, and Monsanto. A lifelong learner, Kennedy has a B.S. in chemical engineering from the University of Florida, a B.S. in psychology from Biola University, a M.Ed. from Fielding Graduate University, and an MBA from Harvard Business School.
Kennedy has lived in Puerto Rico, the Dominican Republic, Washington Heights, Miami, Houston, Chicago, Boston, Orange County, and currently resides in Andover, Massachusetts, with his wife and children.
