Koya Leadership Partners congratulates The Fashion Institute of Technology on the appointment of Troy Richards as the Dean of the School of Art and Design. Richards’s selection was made after a comprehensive national search overseen by Koya.
One of New York City’s premier public institutions, FIT is an internationally recognized college for design, fashion, art, communications, and business. FIT is known for its rigorous, unique, and adaptable academic programming, experiential learning opportunities, academic and industry partnerships, and commitment to research, innovation, and entrepreneurship.
Richards is an experienced arts administrator, artist and faculty member who has worked at both a large public university and a small independent arts institution. He most recently served as the Interim Associate Dean of the Arts, College of Arts and Sciences, at the University of Delaware.
At the College of Arts and Sciences, Richards was responsible for the academic programs and activities of the college’s “arts portfolio,” which encompasses the visual arts and design, music, dance and theatre. Together these disciplines offer 800 majors. He has been employed at the University of Delaware since 2008, starting as an Associate Professor and Head of Printmaking, Undergraduate Area Coordinator and Graduate Program Director. Richards also served as chair of the department of art and design.
Prior to the University of Delaware, Richards was an Assistant Professor and Chair of Drawing at the Cleveland Institute of Art.
Richards is an interdisciplinary artist who often works collaboratively and has exhibited widely throughout the nation, both in group and solo shows. His work has been included in exhibits in New York at P.S. 1, White Columns, Socrates Sculpture Park and the Center for Books, among others.
Richards received his BFA in painting from the University of the Arts in Philadelphia and his MFA in painting from Cranbrook Academy of Art.
